Can I wear my shoes, or do I have to put on my skates?
Club Rules

HOCKEY SKATES ONLY. Our synthetic ice is solely for ice skates to ensure your hard work transfers directly to real ice. No special blades required—just lace up your hockey skates and glide over to your reserved shooting bay. The sharper your skates are, the better your session will be.

Will the synthetic ice dull my ice skates and require me to re-sharpen before a game or pratice?
Hockey

For optimal results, we recommend sharpening your skates before your next game or tryout—it’s a simple way to ensure you have no doubts about your edges. I’ve personally skated on this synthetic ice and then played on real ice later that day, and I noticed no difference in my performance.

How big is each shooting bay ?
Booking

Each of our five shooting bays is approximately 26 feet long by 16 feet wide, providing a total practice area of 416 square feet. Essentially, you're shooting from the high slot area of the ice.

What does each shooting bay include with my reservation?
Booking

100 pucks

Shooter Tutor with 11 target areas

Pass Buddy

Fast-Hands Stick Handling Aid

How do I know which shooting bay I reserved?
Booking

Your reservation will have an assigned shooting bay number listed on your confirmation. There are two ways to identify that you are in the correct shooting bay at the facility:

  1. Each shooting bay is numbered 1 through 5 in large font on the back wall behind the nets.
  2. Each bay has a large TV monitor that displays your name and reservation time, along with a countdown clock so you know exactly how much time you have to train.

How early can I come into the facility before my reservation starts?
Booking

You can enter the facility up to 10 minutes before your reservation, but the door won’t unlock automatically. After booking, head to the 'Upcoming' tab in your mobile app, where you’ll find a countdown clock and a button labeled 'Tap to Unlock Door.' When you're physically at the door and your countdown clock reaches zero, press the "tap to unlock door" button on your phone to open the main entrance. This helps us ensure each athlete has the space they need to train. Parents and siblings who aren’t training can relax in the designated seating areas

How many skaters are allowed in each bay?
Booking

Each bay is built for focused, high-energy training—just you and the puck, with plenty of space to move. Want to train with a friend, parent, or personal coach? Awesome! You can upgrade your reservation to include one additional person for just $30. Please note: bays are limited to a maximum of two individuals at a time—no exceptions. Anyone caught exceeding the two-person limit may face additional charges and possible suspension or banning from the facility.

Do I need to wear all my hockey equipment or just my skates, gloves, stick, and helmet?
Club Rules

Participants are welcome to wear as much protective gear as they prefer; however, we strongly recommend bringing skates, a stick, and gloves at a minimum. While helmets are not required, they are highly encouraged. If you or your parent/guardian believe a helmet enhances safety, we advise wearing one.

Can I rent more than 1 shooting bay at a time?
Booking

Yes, you can reserve as many shooting bays as you’d like. We recommend reserving multiple bays if you have two or more skaters—especially if those skaters are Peewee age or older. The maximum number of skaters allowed per bay is two.

To reserve multiple bays, start by booking one shooting bay and selecting a rink. The system defaults to “Auto” under rink selection, but you can use the drop-down menu to choose a specific rink numbered 1 through 5. Once your first reservation is complete, repeat the process and select a rink adjacent to the one you initially chose.

Example: If your first reservation is for Rink 1, your second should be for Rink 2.
Note: Rinks 1 and 5 cannot be reserved together, as they are not adjacent.

Once your reservations are confirmed, both rinks and their assigned numbers will appear under “My Bookings.

What should I do when my session ends?
Club Rules

Rule #1: Be respectful of your fellow hockey players by leaving the shooting bay clean and ready for the next session. Please spend the last few minutes of your time picking up all pucks, placing them in the buckets, and returning all training aids to their proper locations. A clean, organized space ensures the next player can start their session without delay. Each bay is monitored by our reservation surveillance system to ensure compliance with the rules. The only exception is if the next player personally lets you know they’ll take care of the cleanup themselves.

Can I rent out the entire facility for my team or specific event?
Booking

Yes, this facility will be available for rent to coaches and trainers who wish to run smaller camps, clinics, or private sessions. These types of reservations must be scheduled directly with the owner at mike@bardown.net.

How do I know when my reservation ends is there a buzzer or some notification that I get?
Booking

Each shooting bay has a screen that shows your name, your reservation time, and a countdown clock, so you always know how much time you’ve got left to train. If you want to keep going, you can easily extend your session in the app—as long as no one’s booked the bay after you.

Are there any employees on location?
General

No. Bar Down Hockey Training is a fully autonomous facility—built for convenience, flexibility, and affordability. We designed it this way so players can train multiple times a week without breaking the bank. It’s super easy to navigate: just enter your reservation code to unlock the main door, then cruise through the lobby to the locker room area. The shooting bays are right next door, making it quick and easy to jump straight into training.

Can I just drop off my kid off and leave to go run errands?
General

Parents or guardians of hockey players under the age of 13 are required to remain within the facility for the duration of their child's session

What are the cameras in each shooting bay for?
General

Each shooting bay is equipped with two cameras, each serving a specific purpose. One camera is connected to the reservation software and replay system, allowing you to access recordings of your training session as well as highlight clips. The second camera is used for security monitoring, ensuring the safety and well-being of all athletes. Any individual found damaging property or engaging in inappropriate behavior will be permanently prohibited from accessing the facility.

If my sesseion is being monitored do I have access the video recordings so I can show my coaches, parents, or friends?
Booking

Yes! You can grab your own session videos for just $5–$15! Each video stays saved for 30 days, so you can rewatch your highlights, track your progress, or share with your crew. There’s also a cool "Highlight Button" right under the big TV screen—just tap it to save the last 26 seconds of action. Perfect for when you finally rip that top-shelf shot, pull off that sick move you’ve been practicing, or want to post a clip to your socials. All your videos get saved in your app under the "History/Replays" tab—ready to watch, share, or flex anytime.

I'm a goalie how can I use this facility to improve my skills?
General

Absolutely! Bar Down's synthetic ice is built for every hockey player—especially our fearless goalies. It’s the ultimate spot to sharpen your skills, dial in your technique, and stay game-ready. Grab a buddy to rip shots on you or book a private session with your favorite goalie coach.
